How To Heal: By Letting Pain Speak

Pain isn’t a punishment, though it can sometimes feel like it. Pain is technically... just information.

Pain isn’t a punishment, though it can sometimes feel like it. Pain is technically... just information.

It’s the body, the heart, the spirit saying: Something here needs your attention. And yet, we’re taught to suppress it, ignore it, numb it, or “power through and suck it up.” That's not conducive to healing anything.

Healing can only occur when we get honest about what hurts. Pain is data. Sometimes it's dramatic and loud and sometimes it’s more subtle, like a quiet ache, a persistent thought, or a sense that something’s off, but it always points us toward a need to heal something.

  • Consider pain as your body’s messenger.

  • Stop asking “why is this happening to me?” and start asking “what is this revealing to me?”

Reflection questions:

  • What pain am I carrying that I haven’t given language to yet?

  • What have I been trying to suppress or avoid?

  • If my pain could speak, what would it say it needs?

Offer pain the attention it requires without resistance and the healing can begin.
